But NaviScan will only allow me to input one Logging Control instrument. Is there a way to use both of this logging control instruments?

Kind Regards,

---------------------------------------
Reply #1
---------------------------------------

Hey

There is no reason (and no possibilities) to use two of those - the Nav Settings should also include the runline control part

See http://download.eiva.dk/online-training/NaviPac%20Manuals/Various/NP_NS.pdf

Recalculate USBL

To recalculate the USBL positions after editing of the typically noisy Dynamics Offsets, the JobPlanners Recalculate USBL action should be used.

A typically work flow is sketched below:

1) Edit the Dynamic Offsets for the USBL-positioned object with the DataEditor. The Median Spike Detection Filter is good at this. Note this filter is working on one component of the USBL Vector (the Dynamic Offset) at the time, but when spikes are deleted the two other components are also deleted. The filter can be applied on the other two components afterwards:

2) Save the DataEditor editing.

3) Use the JobPlanner to Recalculate the USBL positions. This is done by selecting either the vessel block (which will recalculate USBL positions for all depended objects) or the USBL-positioned block itself.

4) Reopens the recalculated USBL-positioned block in the DataEditor to verify or further edit the recalculated positions.

Hans K. I am using an RDI Workhorse doppler and have it attached to the main survey ROV. But I am wondering how I can display the doppler corrected position in Helmsmen Display rather then the USBL raw positions. On object shows up with the doppler corrected positions (UHD 61 DL Fit-311) but I am unsure how to actually use this position or output to external sources.

---------------------------------------
Reply #1
---------------------------------------

For all output's and displays you must go in and select the objject - and thus define if it's using the raw USBL or the DVL filtered object.
Please note that for NaviScan you should use the raw - or perhaps event better send both the raw and the DVL filtered

RDI Doppler

My questions concern's utilizing a workhorse RDI doppler to "smooth" USBL positions.

!. How can you calibrate an RDI Doppler in NaviPac, or can you?

2. How do I ensure that I am using the corrected doppler positions rather then the USBL positions?

3. When utilizing NaviScan for collection of Multi-Beam data, how can I ensure that NaviScan uses the corrected doppler positions rather then the sometimes jumpy USBL positions?

---------------------------------------
Reply #1
---------------------------------------
Both NaviPac and NaviScan includes a DVL Calibration program. Itloads the recorded files (Survey files in NaviPac and SBD files from NaviScan) and allows you to estimate the mounting errors.

Similar function can be found in NaviEdit data editor

In NaviPac you assign the DVL to an object - eg. ROV. A second object will be created called ROV: DL Fitlered - this second represents the Kalman Filtered position with the DVL used.
Make sure that you send the raw position to NaviScan - not the filtered. Instead interface the DVL into NaviScan.
In NaviEdit you will then use the DVL data in the Kalman Filter to obtain the best result

Output of data strings / CSV formats from Eiva to other sensors

We are using EIVA NaviPac and have been requested bya client to output to their logging system the data we are inputting and logging from an ROV.

They are requesting from the ROV the following data and what the formats can be

1. Can we take the data data as: serial (RS232, 9800, N, 8,1 or alternatively TCIP/ UDP over a LAN ?
>> When a PC is member of a windows domain, and the users are logged in as domain users, the accounts are not local anymore. In this case domain users are denied access to the SQL Server/NaviEdit database.

Two solutions exist:

Make the domain user a local administrator.

Create a login for the domain user within the SQL Server and grant domain users access to to the SQL Server (see attachment).

In the following three different ways are given to grant the domain user administrative rights to the SQL Server:

Use the SQL Server Management Studio

Give the user a login:

And give the user administrative rights to the SQL Server:

This can also be done by a command line from Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, after 'DomainName' and 'DomainUser' have been substituted with your domain name and user names:

EXEC sp_grantlogin 'DomainName\DomainUser'
EXEC sp_addsrvrolemember 'DomainName\DomainUser', sysadmin

Use a bat file

A sample script have been provided. It demonstrates how to open access from the command line. To run the sample script, rename the script file extension from 'txt' to 'cmd'. The script should first be changed to reflect your domain name and user names.

A description of the commands needed to grant domain users access to the SQL Server:

To enable user ‘DomainUser’ on the domain ‘DomainName’ access to the SQL Server, without full access to all of the server computer, you should issue the following commands on the server where the SQL Server is installed. To do this you or your domain administrator should have administrative rights to the server where the SQL Server is installed:

osql -E -S (local) -Q"EXEC sp_grantlogin 'DomainName\DomainUser'"
    osql -E -S (local) -Q"EXEC sp_addsrvrolemember 'DomainName\DomainUser', sysadmin"

This will grant the ‘DomainUser’ administrative access to the SQL Server without granting the ‘DomainUser’ administrative access to the rest of the server.

Use SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration

A third option to configure this for a SQL Server 2005 Express edition is to use the SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration to grant a user administrative rights to the SQL Server:

Hans K. Along with the geotiff file, say mygeoimage.tif, a companion world file mygeoimage.tfw is expected (required), defining the world position and alignment of the raster image.

Definition of the World File (e.g. .tfw)

A world file is a plain text data file used by geographic information systems to geo-reference raster map images. World files do not specify a coordinate system as this information is generally stored somewhere else in the raster file itself or in another companion file.

The generic meaning of world file parameters are:

Line 1: pixel size in the x-direction in map units/pixel, e.g. meters/pixel

Line 2: 0.0

Line 3: 0.0

Line 4: pixel size in the y-direction in map units/pixel, e.g. meters/pixel (almost always negative!)

Line 5: x-coordinate (Easting) of the center of the upper left pixel, e.g. in meters

Line 6: y-coordinate (Northing) of the center of the upper left pixel, e.g. in meters

Example of a world parameter file, e.g. mygeoimage.tfw:

43.350494246893199000.000000000000000000.00000000000000000-43.74278455059451400568649.704895173430000005765288.25533308000000000

For further infomation about world files in general, or world files in special where an image needs to be aligned with the current map alignment (rotated) then see the official wikipedia description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_file

Geotiff in Praxis

In HD the geo-referenced image file (not the companion world parameter file!) may be drag and dropped directly onto the map view (or loaded as a normal .dtm). If first time opening, the image file will be indexed, i.e. quadtree divided into ever smaller quads, making handling of large raster images seamlessly and fast. The indexing will produce a new SQL based file, with the name of the original file appended with the .db extension, e.g. mygeoimage.tif.db. If second+ time opening, the corresponding .db file will then be loaded instead of the original geotiff file! Hence, in case of a needed reindexing, just delete the derived .db file.

General Notes

The companion world file is not always needed, but this special case only applies to .tif images with embedded world parameters (a possible provided companion world file has higher priority than possible embedded world parameters!). A substantial number of other raster image formats are supported, e.g. .bmp and .jpg. But in these cases the required world parameter file is named .bpw and .jpw, respectively.

Contact EIVA (support@eiva.dk) for further information.

Brian J.O.
